Here are a few things you need to know about mortgage financing:
- You can work with whatever loan officer you choose.
- As real estate agents, we have no financial interest in who you choose to help you with your financing. The Real Estate Settlement and Procedures Act (often called RESPA) prohibits us from receiving any "kick-backs". Rest assured that we just want you to find a loan officer who will give you competitive rates, great service, and will get the job done.
- Ask your loan officer for a statement called a Good Faith Estimate. That form will let you know what your monthly payment will be, as well as estimate any closing costs associated with the loan.
- Feel free to shop around, but be aware that if you authorize more than 3 different people to pull your credit report, it can start to affect your credit score, which can affect your interest rate.
